Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless.

I wanted to write a testimonial about my affiliation with CSGNA and realize that I could write a book, so it is quite a challenge to keep it short… after all I’m an “original” member and have many stories I could tell, but I will save them for the next chapter.
I can't express how pleased I am that, over the last 25 years, the association has developed and grown to such a stellar organization. From a small group in Ontario to a national body that is over 700 strong, with many accomplishments to its’ credit.
To me, CSGNA represents something special and unique. Getting involved with the group has not only provided me with lifelong friendships, but it has made me a better nurse and a better patient advocate. When I was asked to volunteer for the executive, believe it or not, I had reservations. But volunteering for CSGNA pushed me to hone my professional skills and I’ve learned more from the experience than I ever gave in return. After all, I think I’ve overcome challenges in almost every executive position. But along with the challenges were fun times that I would not trade for anything.
Volunteering for CSGNA is about giving your talent, time and energy and is the perfect way to discover what things you are good at, away from your usual “work/home” routine. It is never too late to learn new skills and foster an expanded network of friends and colleagues. I can tell you that to this day, my CSGNA colleagues keep my “grey cells” active with questions, opinions and discussions, on a one to one basis or at regional and national meetings. What an exemplary group of professionals you are! Those of you whom I’m privileged to also call friends, keep humble and remind me of who I am, even when it’s not a pretty picture!!!! J
Ghandi said “The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others”. I can guarantee that if you choose to volunteer for a position, no matter how small or how large, with CSGNA you too will experience that sometimes elusive sense of fulfillment. I’m sure that it will lead you to opportunities that you never imagined and don’t forget that you will have fun too!!
To that end, I will look forward to reading your testimonial, about your priceless moments, soon.
Respectfully submitted
Maria Cirocco, RN
CSGNA member and Past President
